Shahid Mohd Abdul, IAS, Rank 57
I appeared for both India Forest Service and Civil Service IAS interview session with Sanjeev Kabeer Sir and I found it very useful. Sir pinpointed my strengths and weaknesses and gave me enough confidence to face the real interview which helped me to secure the rank. Only institute I found which gives accurate estimate of your interview marks and I highly recommend it for interview preparation.

(Secured AIR 499 in Civil Services (IAS) Exam 2018. She attended ‘Complete interview Course’ at Career Quest Institute, Delhi)
I came to Career Quest coaching first time for my UPSC Assistant Labour Commissioner interview and Kabeer Sir's guidance helped me a lot.
I already had a very bad experience of interview when I appeared for my NABARD grade B interview without any help from any institute. I had many misconceptions, like coachings are waste of money and time, also I had many myths related to the whole idea of what interviews are about.
All these myths and misconceptions were cleared during the short span of 8 days I spent doing classes here at Career Quest. It helped me a lot. It helped me work on my personality, on my attitude, on my vocabulary and on how to reply even if I have to deny that I don't know the answer.
I finally made it to the final list of ALC and Career Quest has a big role to play in that.
After this success I again came to institute for my Bihar Public Service (BPSC) interview (60th to 62nd) and again it proved to be very beneficial for me. I got 85 marks in personality test of BPSC out of 120 and I am allotted revenue officer's post.
The third time I came to Career Quest and seeked Sanjeev Kabeer Sir's guidance was for my UPSC Civil Services Exam (IAS) interview. My interview was on 27th March 2019. I scored 206 marks in UPSC CSE interview, which is the highest marks given in the interview. I cleared the UPSC CSE exam with 499th rank.
Kabeer Sir's guidance made me aware of what is needed and what isn't required for an interview preparation. I gained more confidence here. I am really glad I came at CQ.
In all the three grand success which I got back to back (ALC, BPSC, UPSC), Career Quest's and Kabeer Sir's role has been central and very helpful in my journey. Not just with the perspective of interview preparation but also at a general level of understanding about my own personality and how to groom it came from sir. I am glad I came here. Thank you sir and Career Quest. Best wishes!

About IAS Interview
Interview Syllabus
The candidate will be interviewed by a Board who will have before them a
record of his career. He will be asked questions on matters of general interest.
The object of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate.
In broad terms this is really an assessment of not only his intellectual qualities but also social traits and his interst in current affairs. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.
The technique of the interview is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate.
The interview test is not intended to be a test either of the specialised or general knowledge of the candidates which has been already tested through their written papers.
Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own state or country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should rouse the curiosity of well educated youth.

HOW TO SCORE GOOD MARKS IN UPSC INTERVIEW?
You may call it interview but the more appropriate term is the personality test. This is the final stage of the examination. This is very crucial in putting your rank up or down the final list. Therefore one should take this final step very seriously.
The interview shouldn’t normally require any extra preparation other than being aware of issues and especially those related to one’s home state. Biodata is most important.
One should prepare his Bio-data, Home-state/town, Socio-Economic-Political problems of India, options subjects and subjects of graduation/post-graduation, hobbies.
Personality Development Programme and some mock interview sessions are extremely helpful.
One should be prepared on the information mentioned in the Biodata.
While facing the interview Board, the most important attributes that count are : calmness and smile on the face, natural tone and expression.
One needs to be honest and say sorry if not sure about any fact.
Asked yourself why I wanted to join this job? Why did I leave a good career or job (If any)? Work on your Bio-data and try to make as far away question as possible.
The interview depends upon with what frame of mind one appears before the Interview panel.
Be confident, Interview is not question-answer session, in real sense it is purposeful conversation. Speak freely during the interview.
Make short notes of all the current events in the preceding six months.
You have to concentrate on the following areas :
1) Background including education, family etc.
2) Home state/dist.
3) Subjects studied at graduation/post-graduation level.
4) Hobbies & interests.
5) About India and World. (Social-Political- Economic).
Personality test also means you have to dress well in a formal outfit, but again there is no hard & fast rule about it.
It is very useful to join a good Mock-Interview sessions.
We made out stand very clear on contentious issues so that we might not be trapped in by the board.
It is very important to think about immediate issues and problems systematically and give cogent and unambiguous answers during the interview, and the essential requirements for these are familiarity with a wide range of issues, clarity of thought and a systematic, though not rigid, outlining of the various features and aspects in involved, together with atleast some original, convincing arguments.
Excessive emphasis (like ready-made answers) on coaching mars candidates easiness and originality.
The interest/hobbies indicated should be genuine.
Tensions and excitements have to be channelised to a creative expression and accommodative answers.
One should not be too rigid or too soft regarding his/her opinions. It is better to be on the side of flexibility rather than that of rigidity.
Wish you all the best !
IAS INTERVIEW TIPS
by Topper Ann Mary George
She scored 193 marks (70%) in her UPSC interview to get selected in IFS.
About IAS Interview
DAF is the foundation on which your interview is built. Prepare each word in the DAF thoroughly. Give them interesting hooks in the DAF to ask upon. Otherwise they will ask random questions which cannot be prepared for. But do not write anything false because if they catch it, that’s the end of the game.
Be abreast of all recent events. Listen to AIR news at 9pm and read at least 2 newspapers and develop a rational and balanced point of view on these topics.
Pay special attention to international events or nations being visited by PM.
Record all the mocks that you give and come home and listen to your own answers. You will be able to identify mistakes yourself. Go for at least one mock in which they give you video feedback. You get to see our own facial expressions and body language that we are not aware of.
During the Interview
Enter with a smile. You can ask the staff outside the room if there is a lady member in the panel and in which side she is sitting. So, you can be prepared to greet the board in the right order.
Let them complete the question. Pause and then reply. It shows that you have appreciated the question well.
Give reasons for your views. This can display your rational thought process.
Take permission before guessing.
Accept the fact that you may not be able to answer all questions in an interview. Here, Sanjeev Kabeer sir’s (Career Quest Institute) analogy of interview to a cricket match is worth mentioning. There will be some balls in which u have to just defend the wicket, some in which you can hit a six and even others which you can get a run or two. It is all about understanding the nature of the question and answering accordingly.
So, it doesn’t matter how many “I don’t know” you say but it’s important that you say it in the right spirit and don’t get disheartened. (As told to insightsias)
Wish you all the best!
Role of Interview coaching in IAS
Career quest has helped me in the most crucial phase of my journey to success-the interview. I joined CQ after Civil Services Main Exam-2016.
The detailed orientation regarding the different aspects of interview-posture, timing, structuring the answer, accepting your ignorance with grace etc. gave me an in-depth idea regarding interview preparation.
Though many people tell that interview is all about luck, I feel there is a lot to be prepared for interview. Unlike written exams, the interview is a personality test rather than knowledge test. So, it involves questions that you may not be able to answer.
Here, Sanjeev Kabeer sir’s analogy of interview to a cricket match is praiseworthy. There will be some balls in which u have to just defend the wicket, some in which you can hit a six and even others which you can get a run or two. It is all about understanding the nature of the question and answering accordingly.
Kabeer Sir’s vast experience in interview guidance is worth noting because all other coaching centres just let u take a mock, while sir takes into consideration each and every aspect of the interview. He helps us to prepare for questions from our hobbies to home state to cadre preference in a comprehensive manner.
This helped me to refine my answers in the final interview.
Thank you sir. I wish success to all aspirants and am sure that CQ will help them just the way it did for me.

TOPPER'S FEEDBACK
PRASAD AKKANOURU, IPS who secured 220 marks in interview says "Interview Training programme at Career Quest is not run-of-the-mill, where every candidate is considered as the same. Rather, it believes in working on each candidate separately according to his need, with extremely useful mock sessions, on the spot analysis and right feedback. I was able to remove negative points and built-up on my positives in a very short period of time.
Career Quest is the right place for sincere candidates to help realise their dreams."
ANURIMA SHARMA, IRS who secured 205 marks in interview says "All the major and minor care for Interview was taken by Kabeer Sir. The nitty gritties and intricacies of the interview were imparted to us by Sir, in a very positive, simple and lucid manner.
Not just in the interview, but off the UPSC Bhavan also, I am a changed person. The very success of mine is all in all credited to Kabeer Sir.
One may have a plethora of knowledge but if it’s not showcased properly, it’s futile. Kabeer Sir mentored me, to hone and polish my skills for the same.
I am really grateful to him for his ‘priceless’ guidance. I am honoured to be associated with Sir and Career Quest."
